Pop it like it’s Hot!

Ria Stark…Cake Popper?  Remember my dear friend expecting soon and those prettiful Baby Shower Invitations?  In my thorough(?) research in creating some seriously flash-as stuff for the Baby Shower, I knew I had to try my hand at Cake Pops!

Haven’t heard of them?  Well, although I pride myself at being in the know, my idea of what I thought they were was kinda NOT the same.

Fiabots[1] aside, I’ve been googling all week for a master Cake Popper and it became evident that Bakerella is pretty much a Baws! at both making AND decorating them.

Essentially your basic Cake Pop is crumbled cake mixed with frosting (or icing), rolled into balls on a lollipop stick, then dipped into melted chocolate and decorated accordingly.

Here’s the Basic Cake Pop Recipe and some handy Step-by-Step pics with hints:)

What you need to get Cake Popping:

  • Cake (Any flavour)
  • Betty Crocker’s Creamy Deluxe Milk Chocolate Frosting
  • Wilton Candy Melts (For dipping and coating)
  • Robert’s Confectionary Lollipop Sticks (Or they’d just be Cake Balls…sounds so not right…for some of us
  • Polystyrene Block (I just used some from the packaging of a computer)
Basic Cake Pop ingredients, tried and true!

Step 1: Crumble ze cake!
#Tip: Quarter the cake then rub two pieces together
Step 2: Add ze frosting and mix it through til it combines like zis
#Note: I used half the cake and half the frosting

Step 3: Roll zem into round balls, golf-ball size, zen make a 7-in-a-Row sign when you’re done! Put zem in ze freezer while you get ze melted chocolate ready.

Step 4: Melt ze Candy Melts according to ze instructions on ze packet. I went with the Double Boiler method
Step 5: Dip ze stick in ze melted chocolate zen quickly stick it into one of your prepared balls.

Step 6: Insert like so and stick into polystyrene block and allow to set BEFORE beginning the full-on dipping session.
Step 7: Quickly dip zem into melted chocolate then hold in left hand whilst rotating and gently patting your forearm to allow excess chocolate to drip away.
#I have yet to master this skill

And BOOM!  Cake Pop Experiment One done and dusted…

Step 9: Get creative and decorate! Ze theme of ze Baby Shower is “NBA All-Stars” so I’m practising some basketballs!

I’m relieved something positive resulted from this experiment and on my way to purchase alternative decorating ingredients and hopefully perfect them with a smooth finish!

Happy Sunday people and relaxing to the latest DJ V-Mix xx
